Sure – there are plenty of mutes out there. But here is a cost effective and interesting solution. I like it better than my ebony mute since the clamp stays on better and the rubber ends won’t harm the bridge. Plus I can put the clamp between different strings – I often like the G&D strings muted more than the lower strings….

Nope, no joke. I got the idea from a student who got it from a Lyric Opera bassist. I did get a few odd looks at a gig but it really works well.
