Here are some pictures of my clamp mute in both practice and performance mode. See – I wasn’t kidding! It really does work well. Here’s a link to them at Home Depot. I did bend the tips a bit so they have more contact with the bridge.

ebony mutes work pretty well. why not use one of those?

Of course an ebony mute works great. But, the clamp is about $2, doesn’t fall off (I’ve had problems with ebony mutes coming loose), and it doesn’t damage the bridge. It’s just a fun, cheap alternative.
