The other International Society of Bassists board members and I just wrapped up an excellent Mexican dinner here in Dallas tonight, and we’re gearing up for a long day of double bass discussions tomorrow. These meetings cover a whole lot of ground–we’ve got a convention coming up at Penn State in only six months (check here for more registration details in the coming weeks), and we’ve got a myriad assortment of other projects both convention and non-convention related to cover as well, so it should be a fun but quite intense day.

I have to say, it is quite cool being a part of the inner workings of this organization. I’ve been a member of the ISB since high school, and it is fun to both get an insider perspective and to help guide things into the future.

This is an exciting time to be a bassist. Our instrument’s pedagogy has never been better, exciting new instruments are coming out all the time, and the overall level of bass playing just keeps getting better… and better… and better…

Technology is also opening many new doors for musicians. Each year seems to bring about some exciting new development. For example, while chatting with some board members tonight, I learned that several of them have already been doing video performances on Ustream.tv and have plans to greatly expand this kind of collaboration in the near future. I’ve experimented with this on the blog as well, and you’ll be seeing more streaming content from me as well looking forward.

OK–time for some beauty sleep before a long day of double bass.
