I’m getting sick and tired of the punishing winter weather of Illinois–not a rare thing for me in mid-January. Why on Earth would I want to live here? I have no idea.

My wife is applying all over the country for medical school. She’s applying to a lot of places in warmer climates, including Texas, California, New Mexico, and Hawaii. I hope we end up one of those places. Not more Illinois!

Many of my friends here look at me strangely when I start whining and wailing about the weather.

“Wouldn’t you miss this, Jason?”

Let’s see:

-foot after foot of snow
-ice
-getting hit by buses and cars (both have happened to my wife and me)
-subzero temps
-almost getting towed (I just missed getting towed yesterday)
-getting tickets for parking on the street… when there’s no other option!

Yeah. I’ll miss all that.

Sure.

Of course, there are a lot of positives about living in metro Chicago. I am glad, in many ways, to live here. But I’m also desperately sick of it, and I’ve actually got some skills (not to mention a new teaching certificate) that allow me to be more mobile than I was before.

We’ll see.
