Reinforcing my belief that this current up-and-coming generation of bassists is the most technically advanced yet, I’d like to offer up this recording passed along to me by bassist Steve Metcalf of Ben Jensen, an absolutely outstanding player who studies with Bruce Bransby. This is a recording of the Gigue from Bach’s Sixth Solo Cello Suite, played at pitch in a master class.
This really is bass playing of the highest caliber, and it’s a good indicator of just how high the standards are in the double bass community at present.

Looks like I’ve got some practicing to do.
sounds like he got the German sound!
Its also because he uses a smooth bow motion and let the string to breath (not holding the sound), very like the “German schulle”.
(someone was listen to Ruiz, Stoll, Guy Tuneh etc….)
nice Stever
