Ben Jensen plays Bach 6th Suite Courante
Reinforcing my belief that this current up-and-coming generation of bassists is the most technically advanced yet, I’d like to offer up this recording passed along to me by bassist Steve Metcalf of Ben Jensen, an absolutely outstanding player who studies with Bruce Bransby at Indiana University. This is a recording of the Courante from Bach’s Sixth Solo Cello Suite, played at pitch in a master class.
This really is bass playing of the highest caliber, and it’s a good indicator of just how high the standards are in the double bass community at present.
