Juilliard pre-college bassist Paul Nemeth sent me the following information about an upcoming Albert Laszlo recital on March 28, 2009 (my birthday!). Mr. Laszlo is truly one of the great bass pedagogues active in the U.S., and I’d encourage folks to check it out if they can make it.

Double bassist Albert Laszlo, professor of double bass at the Juilliard School, University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and Aspen Music Festival, will be giving a pre-college faculty recital at the Juilliard School on March 28th at 6 PM with pianist Patricia Wood. The program will be Mozart’s Violin Sonata in E minor, K.304; J.S. Bach’s Gamba Sonata No.1 in G major; Rossini’s Duetto for cello and bass (with Mr. Laszlo performing the cello part); and Mendelssohn’s Cello Sonata No.2, Op.58. The recital will be free of charge and located in Paul Recital Hall inside Juilliard on West 65th Street and Broadway.

The Juilliard School’s Pre-College Division is still accepting applications for prospective double bassist students. Juilliard’s Pre-College Division meets every Saturday from September through May. Double bass students are taught by world-renowned faculty Eugene Levinson and Albert Laszlo. Curriculum includes: orchestra, double bass studio class, music theory, and ear-training. Electives are available in composition, conducting, chorus, and music history. Financial aid is available for those who qualify. Contact the Pre-College Office for admissions information at (212) 799-5000 x241 and at http://www.juilliard.edu/precollege/precollege.html
