Celebrate Mendelssohn’s 200th Birthday with the Chicago Philharmonic

Pick Staiger Hall, Northwestern University, 50 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston

Join the critically acclaimed Chicago Philharmonic for an enchanting evening celebrating the 200th birthday of German composer Felix Mendelssohn. Titled “Mendelssohn’s 200th Birthday,” the concert begins at 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 15in the intimate Pick-Staiger Hall located on the campus of Northwestern University in Evanston. A carefully chosen ensemble will perform Mendelssohn’s moving Octet in E-flat major.

This was a piece Mendelssohn composed at the very young age of 16. In addition to Mendelssohn’s Octet, the Chicago Philharmonic will perform Franz Schubert’s Trout Quintet in A Major, D. 677, and Bohuslav Martinu’s Quartet for Clarinet, Horn, Cello and Side Drum (1924), H. 139. Following the performances, theater patrons will be invited to a lovely soiree with wine and hors d’oeuvres and a chance to mingle with the musicians. Tickets to “Mendelssohn’s 200th Birthday” are $70 on the main floor, and $60, $33 and $20 in the balcony.

Student tickets are $10, available in the lobby before the performance. Group discounts are available. Special seating is available for handicapped. Free parking is available in the adjacent parking garage.
