Though I killed off the bass blog for sale page back in 2008 (too hard to maintain), I’m still putting up the occasional info about basses for sale. The following instrument is for sale from bass blog and Contrabass Conversations fan Ben Huff:bass for sale.png

Czech double bass, circa 1900

Size: 3/4
String length: 41.5″
Additional Features: Chromatic C-extension and fingerboard extension that goes up to an Eb above the 2nd G harmonic, both done by Andy Stetson of the Cincinnati Bass Cellar.
Known History: I purchased this bass almost 6 years ago from Steve Reinfranck of SMR Double Basses in Evanston, Illinois. Steve told me that he purchased this particular instrument from a man that came over from Europe with a number of instruments and bows. Apparently the bass was in terrible condition, so Steve hired Tim Fox, a luthier from Illinois, to repair the bass. The repairs were successfully completed, and I purchased it from Steve in late 2003.
I’ve played this bass in the College of DuPage chamber orchestra, the Northbrook Symphony, and in the Chicago College of Performing Arts symphony orchestra. The bass has been well taken care of, and I’ve never had an open seam or crack in the entire time I’ve owned it.
Location: Roosevelt University in Chicago, 430 South Michigan Avenue. I’m currently a student there, and anyone is welcome to come and try it out. There are numerous practice rooms and even larger spaces to get a feel for how it sounds.
Price: $8,000
