Early music podcasting plus getting students involved

Bassist Jerry Fuller has a new episode out for his early music podcast ArsAntiguaPresents.com, a show that I help with a bit on the technical end. This month’s episode features young players from the Midwest Young Artists program here in Chicago, and I am the tech/web guy on that podcast. We’ve also had Jerry Fuller as a podcast guests on Contrabass Conversations, though he was actually interviewing me for a change!

Young Musicians on the Bass Podcast as Well

We actually featured a bunch of the bassists that are involved in MYA last summer on Contrabass Conversations, chatting with them about where they are in school, what they’ve gotten out of MYA musically and socially, and what their future plans are. Several of these students are in major music schools across the country, and it’s great to get the young perspective on the podcast.

Contrabass Conversations has, for the most part, been focused on professional teachers and players sharing their life experiences and offering advice to the younger generation. Cool stuff (I think so, at least!), but I am all about expanding what we’re covering on this show and get more perspectives from students. That’s something that, even in the first episode of the bass podcast, I mentioned as one of the goals, but out of well over 100 shows, we’ve only got one student interview show. Shame on me!

The International Society of Bassists convention this June will hopefully be a chance for me to connect with more younger players and get some interviews cranked out. If you’re planning on being at the convention this summer, please come up and say hi, and it would be great to do an interview (even a 5-minute “meet & greet” interview) if you’re up for it.

In case you haven’t met me, I’m the guy that looks like this:
