My wife seems to have a knack for saving hurt birds. She just took one down to the Nature Museum in Lincoln Park last week (they take care of injured birds there), and earlier this evening we happened upon a baby bird that had fallen out of his nest while we were strolling around Winnetka.

My wife called the Chicago Bird Collision Monitors, and while she was on the phone this little guy (who had been making eye contact with both of us the way that only a baby animal will do) jumped out into the middle of Green Bay Road. I had to run after him and grab him to keep him from getting killed by the traffic–not exactly the way I’d planned for our evening to go, but helping little animals always trumps any dinner plans we might have had.

My wife carried this little guy back to our car (with him protesting mightily in his baby bird voice) and we took him back to Evanston to await the bird rescue people, trying to keep him comfortable and away from our two very curious cats!
