Here’s a great video of electric bassist Charnett Moffett performing “Moses.” This well-produced video series really showcases this excellent bassist’s technique.

About Moses:

Taken from his recent Motema Music release “The Art of Improvisation”, “Moses” is a Middle Eastern flavored trio number with pianist Scott Brown and drummer Eric McPherson that features Charnett’s considerable slapping-popping technique on fretless electric bass guitar.

About Charnett Moffett:

One of the most virtuosic bassists of the 21st century, Charnett Moffett (known for his work with Wynton Marsalis, Ornette Coleman, McCoy Tyner and Stanley Jordan) stands strong as a composer, master technician and relentless innovator on upright, fretless and piccolo basses. On ‘The Art of Improvisation’ Moffett leads a stellar band on a spirited journey through Indian, Tibetan, free jazz and jazz fusion territories. Special guests: Will Calhoun & RealWorld recording artist Yungchen Lhamo (dubbed ‘ The Voice of Tibet’ by the Dalai Lama) will attract World and Rock enthusiasts.

Great post. Just wanted to pipe in and say that Charnett Moffett is a double bass player as well. Maybe you can note that. Nitpicky I know but… Great blog! Thanks and keep up the great work.

I can second that ! He used to sit next to me at Juilliard Prep. Should have heard his Beethoven 5 variations!
