In search of the United States’ top double bass schools

It’s survey time! We’re soliciting reader opinions on the top music schools in the United States. Please take a moment or two and visit the link below to fill out your own personal ranking. This should prove to generate some interesting data that we can use in the future.

By the way, I realize that I’m leaving many good schools off of this list, so please do not be offended if I skipped your school. I did leave a write-in school spot, so this should allow people to submit choices that I didn’t include as options.

Very cool idea. I’m sure this will help guide serious high school bass students as they consider where to study. However, I’m not sure how accurate the results will turn out, considering that these are opinions coming from people, many of whom have no background with each school, biases, etc. Anyway…I think the results will turn out more along the lines of “which school has the best REPUTATION.”

Right on–that’s the sort of thing I’m looking for.

Nice to meet you. I’m a Japanese man and plan to go to the US to study music and bass. So I’m very interested in this result. This idea must help a lot of people to decide which school they will apply!!

Jason, will you post the results of this? I’m a high school senior who is majoring in double bass preformace so I’m curious to what the outcome will be!

Absolutely–I’ll wait for a bit to get a good sampling from readers and then put out the results. If it proves useful, I’ll try to do this more it the future in a “deeper” way (not just the “best” but what people look for specifically, etc.)

US News and World Report ranking? Won’t the bass schools with the obnoxiously large enrollments (i.e., IU) get more votes because there are more of them?
