It seems that François has embraced the world of online video recently. You’ve got to love this video (caught from every angle) of him destroying a cheap bass. I’m hazy on the details of this story from his past, but I seem to remember that this is what François did many decades ago to upgrade his instrument.

This is great. I’ve had the urge to do this a few times while practicing for juries(Just kidding, Greg!)

This is awful, why would anyone want to watch this? Couldn’t this bass have been given to a student in need of an instrument?

    “I Love It” ???!!!

From all of the things he did until today it seems that he LOVEs to play on Bass and not to KILL him.

    Dear “Maestro”,

    YOU LOST A FAN!

My reaction to that was the same as if I saw a kitten get run over by a car; complete horror! I lost a great amount of respect for Rabbath after seeing this. He’s one of the most famous well-known bass pedagogues alive and he throws a playable bass out a window for fun? It’s insulting to music teaching to do something like that!

This video is incredibly insulting to watch. This instrument should have been given to a student with financial need. I do not find this funny at all. Why did he do it??

“Dear” Francois, even not as a Joke!!

Seriously, I have no respect for this man anymore after this “joke”. Jason please chime in, surely you can’t condone such moronic behaviour no matter how famous this man is! I have students and I would have loved to see a bass like that go to one of them, it’s downright insulting.

    Yes! I love it too!

PS It is not up to Rabbath, it is up to all of us bassists, in our individual communities and locales to make sure students have access to instruments and instruction. Regardless of their ability to pay.

Can somebody say what he said after destroying his instrument? I’m blind.

What makes a man to take such action? Frustration? Or what? Wouldn’t be better to sel it, or give it to someone who’s willing to take some time in classes aquiring skills? Couldn’t see nothing funny about it, after watching the video and reading the comments. What’s happening to musicians?

People complain about the drop on album sales, music has no quality anymore, blah blah bla, the value of music is being discussed, and now this guy comes up and break an instrument? Cheap or not, it’s probably something somebody would love to have in hands but can’t aford it.

Thank you, François. At least I have lessons about what should I do in order to get me some respect.
