Always keeping an eye out for exalted musical successes and disappointing musical failures, this one was recommended to me by a colleague. During a premiere Tauno Marttinen’s Symphony No. 4 with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra (FRSO), this poor timpanist has the camera locked on him during what can be seen as either a massive failure or a clever save on his part. Some colleagues have noted that the conductor has more than a passing likeness to film comedian and former Saturday Night Live comedian Dana Carvey. This probably adds to the comedic affect.

This is hilarious! For some reason timpanists always have something to add to the piece.
