I recently played a concert with the Elgin Symphony where we accompanied old movie clips, something that I always enjoy. It’s fun to see the audience reacting to these movie clips with a live orchestra providing the soundtrack, and it’s always an exercise in concentration from the player’s perspective!

The following clip (from the 1951 classic movie “An American in Paris”) features Oscar Levant daydreaming about playing Gershwin’s Concerto in F… and not just the piano part! Remarkable film work if you’ve never seen it before, and what a challenging excerpt to play along with!
