Brahms 1 with the Berlin Philharmonic

Check out this clip from the Berlin Philharmonic with Simon Rattle at the helm. Does orchestra playing get any better than this? Check out the last couple of moments in this clip (from the last movement), where the whole orchestra is coming in on the “and” of beats one and three… then notice how long he waits before the chord that kicks the piece back “in the groove.” Outstanding!

very exciting but no “better” than Thielemann with Munich and certainly no match for any extant recordings of the B1 under Furtwängler.
