This lengthy (144 pages–I’m only partially through it) dissertation by Andrew William Brown was sent to be by bassist Steve Badach and addresses one of the longtime debates among bassists, namely the tonal differences between flat-backed and round-backed basses.  Check it out here (PDF download – 4.1 MB).
