Chicago Symphony principal double bassist (and former Contrabass Conversations guest) Alex Hanna recently performed the Vanhal Double Bass Concerto with the Chicago Symphony.  A performance of a bass concerto by a major American orchestra is quite rare, and those who were able to make last week’s performances got a real treat.

If you couldn’t make the performance, check out this video of Alex discussing the Vanhal Concerto, and check out our interview to hear excerpts of Alex performing the first and third movements of this piece with the the Bellingham Festival Orchestra.
