We hope that you enjoyed this week’s podcast episodes featuring Ron Carter and the Anna’s Promise Project!  We will wrap up this week with an arrangement of mine that I conducted with my orchestra and double bass soloist (and former Contrabass Conversations guest) Andy Anderson.  This will launch on Friday, so stay tuned!

Next week is Gary Karr Week for Contrabass Conversations.  Here’s the line-up:

Monday will feature an interview with double bass teacher, soloist, and former Gary Karr student David Murray.  David is also a member of the Bad Boyz of Bass, a very cool quartet that we interviewed on episode 71 of the podcast.

If you haven’t seen David perform before, this video of David performing Jon Deak’s B.B. Wolf is a must-watch!

Wednesday we will release an interview with Michael Klinghoffer, the author of Mr. Karr, Would You Teach Me How to Drive a Double Bass?  Michael is also a former student of Gary Karr and teaches at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance.  Michael has a wealth of content both on his website and on his Drive a Double Bass YouTube channel.

Friday will wrap up the week with an interview from the man himself: Mr. Gary Karr!  University of Washington bass professor Barry Lieberman (also a former Contrabass Conversations guest) did this wonderful interview with Gary Karr in 2008.  We released it back on episode 89 of the podcast, and a re-release seems appropriate given the theme of the week!  In this episode, Barry plays his favorite recordings of Gary in front of a live audience, and they talk through each of these recordings and the background behind them.  It is a warm and insightful episode and is a wonderful contribution to the double bass recorded legacy.  Thanks for Barry for this (and everything he does at the University of Washington).  Look for it to release on Friday!
