Scott Pingel returns to San Francisco Conservatory

Scott Pingel will be back at the San Francisco Conservatory for 2016-17.  Scott was one of the first interviews I did in the 2.0 version of the podcast (along with Alex Hanna and Kurt Muroki).

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music is excited to announce that our students will again have the opportunity to study with the San Francisco Symphony’s Principal Bass, Scott Pingel.

Noted for his casual approach to virtuosity, Scott Pingel’s diverse career as an orchestral, jazz, chamber, and solo musician allows him to offer valuable insights to his students. When speaking of his approach to teaching, Scott said “I like all my students to be musicians with integrity who love sound, and love to share the beauty of sound with other people.”

Scott Pingel became Principal Bass of the San Francisco Symphony in 2004, having previously served in that position with the Charleston Symphony and as Guest Principal with the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Canada. Additionally, he has performed with the Metropolitan Opera, the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood, and the Metamorphosen Chamber Orchestra. Also a jazz musician, Scott has been a featured artist at the SFJazz Center and has worked with artists including Michael Brecker, Geoffrey Keezer, and James Williams.

Scott earned degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the Manhattan School of Music, then was selected as a Bass Fellow at the New World Symphony. Before returning to SFCM, he served as Associate Professor of Music at the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theater & Dance.
