I hope you’re having a good week! Here’s the latest in the double bass world.
I can’t believe that it has taken be this long to learn about the wonderful double bass player James Oesi. James is putting together the Dutch Double Bass Festival, which takes place May 19-21. There’s a great lineup of artists for the event, including former podcast guests Adam Ben Ezra and Gary Karr.
Here’s a short video that’s a great introduction to James and his musicianship:
There will be a college-bound bassists and professors meet & greet at the 2017 International Society of Bassists College Fair Day, which takes place Saturday, June 10th, from 8:30 to 10 AM. Register for the convention here, and check out my convention preview podcast with host and ISB president-elect Nicholas Walker for more details.
The Bass Works Program is still accepting applications for the Summer of 2017! Join former podcast guests Ira Gold, Jeff Weisner, Tracy Rowell, and many others at this dynamic event, and learn more in my interview with event coordinator Wesley Thompson. The event takes place July 23-30, and the application deadline is May 15.
Metropolitan Opera Orchestra percussionist Rob Knopper has opened the auditionhacker formula summer boot camp. This eight week online boot camp is for all instrumentalists looking to hone their audition skills. Learn more about Rob’s cool path in my interview with him, and check out a transcribed portion of this conversation in my book Winning the Audition.

I also had the chance to check out the awesome experimental hip-hop trio Live Human here in San Francisco. DJ Quest, bassist Andrew Kushin, and drummer Albert Mathias are totally killer. Learn more about the band here, and check out a clip of them from the Montruex Jazz Festival.
Have a great week!
