Here’s a clip of University of North Texas professor Jeff Bradetich performing the Courante from Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major. Jeff is playing it at pitch and in a very different style than the recent Edgar Meyer recording:

My busy schedule prevented me from seeing two fantastic double bassists play concerts last week. Here is a great video of Edgar Meyer starting a tune with the group Strength in Numbers. Edgar usually plays pizzicato in the clips I have found before, but this tune features him playing an arco solo line to start it all. Note the fluid shifting technique and impeccable intonation–what a player!

My bass blogging buddy PY sent me a link to her Singaporean bass quartet rehearsing an Irving Berlin rag. They are all amateur bassists from Singapore, and I think it sounds great. I hope theyalso put up pieces from the concert on YouTube.
