Bass Balloon
Here is a video sent to me by Jeremy Marino featuring a guy creating a sort of bass out of balloons:
avoir-lieu by Louis-Michel Marion
French bassist Louis-Michel Marion recently got in touch with me after checking out my blog. He has a website himself that is extremely interesting and very artistic. I’m not sure whether to call it a blog or not, but it is set up like a blog, with a new post each week. [...]
Another Blogger in Singapore Bass Quartet
I didn’t realize that Emily From Rantings of a Kontrabasssist is also playing in the Singapore bass quartet video I posted yesterday. Two bloggers in one quartet–not bad!
Left Hand Bass Exercises from Michael Hovnanian
Michael Hovnanian recently put up a new post on his CSO Bass Blog with some left hand exercises he has been practicing. It looks like good stuff. I remember working on materials like this when I was studying with Michael. Note the use of the third finger in the low positions for [...]
Singapore Bass Quartet
My bass blogging buddy PY sent me a link to her Singaporean bass quartet rehearsing an Irving Berlin rag. They are all amateur bassists from Singapore, and I think it sounds great. I hope theyalso put up pieces from the concert on YouTube.

Duet for Violin and Bass by Chris Wind
Here is an unusual piece–this duet was originally written for either violin and cello or else as a duet for two kazoos! This performance is by violinist Perry Ho and bassist Jacky Wu. They recently performed the piece at the Canadian Contemporary Music Showcase.
More Downloads, Better Downloads
I have been doing some work on my download offerings from this blog, adding some new materials (new scales from John Floeter, blank sheet music). I am planning on adding a large number of downloadable double bass MIDI practice tracks. This makes much more sense than putting up Finale or Sibelius files. [...]
Road Warrior Without an Expense Account Part II - Realities of Professional Freelancing
In this second installment of my series on professional freelance life as a musician, I would like to offer some commentary on trends that I see in the world of professional classical music performance. This installment of the series is geared toward orchestral performance. Other musicians, educators, and industry professionals may find value [...]
