Why I loved the 1980s

This is such an amazing video. It features Mr. T singing “Treat Your Mother Right”. Mr. T has a hard time singing in time, but he totally sincere with this song and it is completely compelling. It is also the ultimate 1980s video. Look how the women are dressed, [...]

11 string bass performance

Check out this great clip from YouTube of a performance of the Super Mario Bros theme on an 11 string bass!

Standing Cat Fun

It’s a busy day here in Chicago, and this is all I’ve got for you today. It’s pretty cute, however, so check it out if you feel like some Japanese cat standing fun. More bass/music/tech news soon…

This new thing called "Internet"

I’ve blogged about this video before, but it is worth another viewing even if you’ve already seen it. This is a CBC video from the late 1980s/early 1990s about this new thing called “Internet”, and it is fascinating to view it 15 years later:

Cats Cats Cats Cats Cats…

I recently stumbled upon Catster, a MySpace/Friendster website for your cats. Give each cat their own page and let them network. Maybe this is silly, but it is also fun, especially if you are a big time cat lover like me. Click the Catster logo to check it out.
Even stranger is the [...]

Rocking the Pachelbel

This guy has created a great hair-metal band rendition of the Pachelbel Canon for guitar and MIDI synth. I especially like the chorus-drenched guitar sound and this guy’s gold-plated guitar!

Why can’t everyone groove like this?

Check out this adorable little kid playing the drums. He’s only four years old, and he can play quite well. Is it that some people have rhythm and some people don’t, or is it something that can be taught? Obviously some people (like this little guy) just have it.

Omaha Trip Photos

Here are some shots of my recent trip to Omaha. I especially like the look of brilliance on my face in this one. The other suited guy is my great friend (and excellent author) Michael Colwill:
Here is a shot of the two of us with Aaron Burman (the groom) and my brother Derek:

Mozart Symphony No. 40 with bottles and skates

Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 is one of the most frequently requested pieces for orchestral auditions. At least 75% of all auditions I have taken required this piece, and I have spent countless hours in the practice room working on it. Justin Cormia, one of my University of Wisconsin - Whitewater double bass students, [...]

Bogdon Music - the Cardboard Bass (!)

A cardboard bass? Peter Tambroni sent me a link about this. Believe it or not, this actually appears to be for real. For around $50 you can order a kit from Bogdon Music to assemble a two string bass. The sound is not half bad if this YouTube video is for [...]
