Musician’s Etiquette

Matthew Wengerd brought this post to my attention recently. It is from oboeinsight, a great music blog. Oboeinsinght is definitely worth checking out, even if you don’t play a double reed instrument. The writing is insightful and educational and covers a wide variety of musical topics:

All-The-Time Etiquette

Ultradian Rhythms

Merlin Mann wrote a recent post on Ultradian Rhythms–cyclic biological occurrences in the human body. Many systems in the human body apparently work in 90 minute cycles. This is an interesting concept to ponder. Apparently, for maximum performance one should take a physical and mental break every 90 minutes. Concentration begins [...]

Shostakovich’s birthday week itself will contain the most Shostakovich programming, but the whole month will feature his music. WFMT program director Peter Whorf wrote this recently on the Chicago Classical Music blog:
I’m very excited about what we’ve put together to [...]

Last holdout bands join iTunes

I wrote a post about iTunes and how it is affecting classical music downloads in March. You can find that post here.
Wired News recently put out a story on some popular artists who only now agreed to sell their music on iTunes. Here is a quote from the story about why certain artists [...]

Chicago Classical Music from Phillip Serna

Phillip Serna has started a musical events calendar for the Chicagoland area. It focuses on his performances, which tend to be orchestral and early music oriented. It is a good cross section of Chicago classical musical events, and recommend checking it out. There will be a permanent link to it on [...]
