Michael Hovnanian has continued to add new movements to his multi-track recordings of the Marcello sonatas. Michael has been taking the six Marcello sonatas and recording solo and continuo lines for each of them. It’s a great project to follow along with, not only for the musical results (which are great), but also for the commentary that Michael includes at each stage of the recording process. There’s a blog post included with the recording of each movement, and I highly recommend following along as you listen–it really adds a lot.

You can learn more about Michael’s project and follow along on his blog, and you can check out all of the recordings he has completed here. Start with the first post if you haven’t checked it out yet and go from there.

No podcast this weekend (I need a break!), but I’d like to put the word out about an amazing series of chamber music videos that I published at WMYA.fm, one of the other projects that I help with. Last weekend, the Linden Quartet (2009 Gold Medal winner for the Fischoff Competition) made an appearance at Midwest Young Artists, working with some of the chamber groups there and performing music of Haydn, Bartok, and Beethoven. Honestly, this is some of the best chamber music playing I’ve ever heard. In addition to fantastic playing all-around, members of the quartet give wonderful introductions to the pieces being played, and I think you’ll really enjoy this playing. These quartet performances are all available for download at the WMYA.fm site, and you can subscribe to the podcast if you want to get this content each week when it comes out.
