Does orchestra playing get any better than this? Check out the last couple of moments in this clip (from the last movement), where the whole orchestra is coming in on the “and” of beats one and three… then notice how long he waits before the chord that kicks the piece back “in the groove.” Outstanding!

Last weekend, the Linden Quartet (2009 Gold Medal winner for the Fischoff Competition) made an appearance at Midwest Young Artists, working with some of the chamber groups there and performing music of Haydn, Bartok, and Beethoven. Honestly, this is some of the best chamber music playing I’ve ever heard. In addition to fantastic playing all-around, members of the quartet give wonderful introductions to the pieces being played, and I think you’ll really enjoy this playing. These quartet performances are all available for download at the WMYA.fm site, and you can subscribe to the podcast if you want to get this content each week when it comes out.
