List of music school audition requirements rapidly expanding

We’ve had several individuals submit additions to our music school audition requirements page, so take a look and see what pieces are being asked from various institutions.  If you have any additions, please leave them at the bottom of the audition requirements page.
As this list expands, I’ll start to analyze this data and put [...]

New feature: audition requirement list for universities and conservatories

Frequent blog and podcast collaborator Andy Anderson gave me the great idea of compiling a list of double bass audition requirements for major universities and conservatories.  I think this is a great idea, and I’ve put up what Andy has compiled thus far:

Here are some video excerpts from U.S. double bassist Jacy Cobalis that he compiled for his NJO Summer Academy (Netherlands) audition tape.
It’s really cool (and brave!) of Jacy to put these up on YouTube, and I hope that we’ll be seeing more of this as time goes on.
It’s also interesting to see festivals which require [...]

Delving into German bows with Robert Oppelt

National Symphony Orchestra principal bassist Robert Oppelt put together a great page of information about the wide variety of grips used by professionals on the German bow.  As a French bow player, I always find myself struggling when offering advice to students on how exactly to approach the subtleties of German bow technique, and [...]
