About The Bass Faculty
Christopher Hanulik joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 1984 and was appointed Principal Bass in 1987. He also served as Principal Bass of the Cleveland Orchestra. During his tenure in Cleveland, he made numerous recordings, including Histoire du Soldat, conducted by Pierre Boulez for Deutche Grammophon.
Hanulik appears regularly with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Chamber Music Society and on the LA Phil’s Green Umbrella series. He has performed with the Miami String Quartet, the Jacques Thibaud String Trio, the Chicago String Quartet, and the Calder Quartet. He has also performed with Gil Shaham, Cho Liang Lin, Yefim Bronfman, Emanuel Ax, Vladimir Feltsman, and Thomas Adès, among others. Hanulik has performed at the St. Barth Music Festival, Chamber Music Sedona, and La Jolla Summerfest.
Hanulik has served on the faculties of the Cleveland Institute Of Music, the Kent/Blossom Summer Music Festival, Pepperdine University, and California State University, Northridge. He has given master classes at the Juilliard School, Indiana University, and the Eastern Music Festival and in Los Angeles at The Colburn School, the University Of Southern California, and for the Corwin Seminars. He has also given master classes in Germany at the Hochschule fur Musik Koln, and in Hong Kong at the Hong Kong Academy For The Performing Arts. He is currently on the faculties of the University of California, Los Angeles, the Aspen Music Festival, and the Idyllwild Arts Academy.
Hanulik attended the Juilliard School, where he studied with famed bass pedagogue Homer R. Mensch.
