About The Bass Faculty
Ashley Eidbo grew up in Fargo, North Dakota. At age ten, she decided to try the double bass in the small orchestra at Washington Elementary. She enjoyed it enough to continue into the junior high orchestra, and in seventh grade she joined the Fargo Moorhead Area Youth Symphony. In high school she moved on to the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony in addition to taking private lessons with Paul Ousley of St. Olaf College.
Ashley attended the University of Minnesota, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree under Chistopher Brown, principal bass of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. From there she was offered a scholarship at Indiana University to pursue her Master of Music degree under Professor Lawrence Hurst.
In the process of completing the program, she was able to take several semesters of in-depth orchestral repertoire classes and play with some of the top soloists and conductors in the world. She also had the rare opportunity to complete a year-long, one-on-one pedagogy course under Professor Hurst.
Since 2008, Ashley has lived in Coralville, Iowa and been a member of four of the five major orchestras in the state. She played with the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra from 2008 to 2012, the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra from 2009 to 2012 and Orchestra Iowa from 2008 to 2013. She currently plays with the Des Moines Symphony, where she has been since 2010. She also serves as the Double Bass Applied Music Associate at Grinnell College.
