Perspectives from the Bass Faculty

Q: What are some of your favorite experiences teaching at your school?

A: We foster a collegial, intimate atmosphere while tailoring instruction to each individual’s needs.

Degree programs include Bachelor’s of Music in Performance, Music Education, Music Therapy, Bachelor of Arts, and Master’s and Doctoral degrees. Depending on your goals, weekly lessons will help you achieve anything from learning basic technique to preparing for professional auditions.

About The Bass Faculty

Richard Ryan, a former student of Bruce Bransby at Indiana University, has been the bass instructor at KU since 2013. He is a member of the Kansas City Symphony and formerly was Assistant Principal Bass of the Louisville Orchestra. While in Louisville, Ky., Ryan was also a staff conductor for the Louisville Youth Orchestra and maintained a private bass studio. He has participated in several music festivals throughout the country including Aspen, Brevard, Eastern and Artosphere Music Festivals. Ryan joined the Kansas City Symphony in 2011.
