About The Bass Faculty

Chris Fitzgerald has been a member of the Louisville jazz community as both a teacher and a performer for the past 20 years. During that time, he has performed as pianist or bassist with Jamey Aebersold, Lynne Arriale, Andy LaVerne, Harry Pickens, Richard Stolzman, Don Braden, Sonny Fortune, and many others. Chris earned a Master of Music degree in Theory and Composition from the University of Louisville in 1992. Since then, he has become dedicated to jazz education, serving as a faculty member at the Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Workshops for the past nine years, and more recently joining the UofL Jazz Department, where he teaches traditional and jazz theory, jazz piano, jazz bass, and jazz ensembles. He currently devotes much of his creative energy to his continuing role as bassist in the Harry Pickens Trio, and to his new role as bassist and contributing composer for Java Men, a quartet dedicated to the performance of original jazz-influenced music.
