Brandon Mitchell performs Bottesini mvt 1

DePaul University student Brandon Mitchell is seen here performing the first movement to the Bottesini Concerto. I have several videos of Brandon in the blog queue, and most of them don’t have the unfortunate stand placement that this one does. Great job, Brandon!
Brandon also left a very perceptive comment on my article [...]

Iztok Hrastnik performs the Glière Tarantella

Bass blog reader Jake Siener sent me a link to this video featuring Iztok Hrastnik performing the Glière Tarantella. I really enjoy Iztok’s playing, and this video plus the first and second movements of the Koussevitzky Concerto are great examples for students learning either of these works.

Gary Karr plays Van Goens Scherzo

Those who have seen Gary Karr perform know that he is a bit of a ham (to say the least). This performance of the Van Goens Scherzo is representative of one of the many encores that Gary would typically play during a performance as soloist. I remember hearing this same piece with the [...]

Guy Tuneh plays La Sonnambula by Bottesini

This is an excellent video featuring Guy Tuneh performing the La Sonnambula variations by Bottesini. Wolfgang Kind accompanies Mr. Tuneh on piano. Mr. Tuneh and I have been in touch, and I plan on featuring him on a future episode of Contrabass Conversations!
