Weekly Wrap-Up

I am wrapping up my portion of the Midsummer’s Music Festival in Door County, Wisconsin this week with some fabulous performances. This is my third summer with this ensemble, and it is a great way to decompress after getting up at 4 a.m. and working until 11 p.m. for the past six months. [...]

It is my pleasure to bring you this great interview with Pittsburgh Symphony principal bassist Jeff Turner for this week’s episode of Contrabass Conversations. Gary Karr plays Rachmaninoff Vocalise - video

Finally, Gary Karr footage has made its way to YouTube, and I’m happy to be able to share it on the Bass Blog. This footage is generally pretty hard to find. You’ll be seeing many videos from Gary in the future (barring a takedown notice!) but we’ll start with a clip of Gary [...]

Weekly Bass Blog Wrap-Up

Doing a weekly wrap-up is something that I have been thinking about for a while. I got the idea from Lorelle VanFossen’s blog Lorelle on WordPress, an excellent blog about blogging (of great interest to me–probably not so much for most bass blog readers). Anyway, she does a weekly wrap-up that I always find [...]

David Cadiou plays bass and flute in looped performance

David Cadiou of Trio bass’in performs here through some looping software on flute and bass. The track starts just with flute, but it builds and builds as he adds pizzicato, arco, voice, and tapped effects to the music.

Great comment about ‘Aspiring Music Performance Majors’ post from Brandon Mitchell

Double bassist Brandon Mitchell just left a great comment about my Advice for Aspiring Music Performance Majors post:
This a really amazing article. It definitely scared the crap out of me, though! You know what they say (paraphrased) “the best music teachers are the ones who try to convince you to get out of [...]

Trio bass’in sings gospel tunes in English

Here is another excellent video from Trio bass’in, the excellent French bass ensemble consisting of Gilles Rivière, David Cadiou and Olivier Quesne. You can also check them out on a post from last week. Enjoy!

Trio bass’in tears it up on video

Check out this wild bass video from the French bass ensemble Trio bass’in, sent in to me by ensemble member Gilles Rivière. This group is awesome! Check them out as they tear through all sorts of musical numbers in full costume. Bassists David Cadiou and Olivier Quesne make up this ensemble along [...]
