University of Arizona bass professor Patrick Neher recently asked me to pass the following information along on the blog:
Arizona Bass Players is incorporating and working with the three major universities in Arizona to present the third annual Arizona Bass Players Festival and Workshop, to be held March 6-9, 2008, at ASU School of Music, Tempe (We held it the past two times at UofA in Tucson).
This season’s guests are not yet set other than Catalin Rotaru, Joel DiBartolo, Rufus Reid, and myself. Check out the web site at www.arizonabassplayers.org.
I’ll be sure to let people know more about this event as it approaches. Catalin Rotaru has made several appearances on both the blog and the podcast, having been featured on CBC #19 as a musical guest. You can also watch the following videos from Catalin:

Pianist needs help getting double bass on airplane. My dad, a lifelong amatuer bassist, has finally given it up at age 94 and wants to give me the bass. I’d love to have it. I’m a pianist who plays a little bass, and dad put himself and my brother and me through college with this old Czech bass. The instrument is not highly valuable except sentimentally, so I don’t want to buy an expensive hard case and pay to have it shipped with insurance, etc. I want to buy the bass and me a couple of seats on a plane from Phoenix to CT or RI. Which airline can I call, etc. Surely some of you folks could advise me? Thanks in advance – Kit Johnson at razamajazz@comcast.net or 860 535 4223
