Here is some information for an upcoming Ann Arbor Symphony audition. Interestingly, they are providing links to copies of some of the audition repertoire, so even if you aren’t taking this audition, you may want to go ahead and download the repertoire files below if you’re
looking to expand your double bass music library. One strange thing–the audition repertoire files are JPG (picture) files, not a standard PDF, so you’ll see them as images files when they are downloaded. They are still legible, though–probably just pilot error when scanning the music.

Thank you for your interest in auditioning for the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra. The A2SO is a professional orchestra, performing 11-15 concerts each year, including mainstage concerts, daytime youth concerts, family concerts and contract services (concerts booked by outside organizations). We are proud of the excellent music making in our concerts which serve over 50,000 area listeners annually. We hope that you will surf our website to see the extent and types of concerts we provide for patrons: youngsters, seasoned citizens, adults and families.
The auditions are scheduled for the week of September 23. Specific instruments’ day, time and location of audition will be posted on this site as soon as they are assigned, toward the end of the summer.
The A2SO generally has rehearsal for 4-5 days the week of a concert, beginning Tuesday or Wednesday evening. The schedule of concerts is here. The 2007-2008 pay scale will be $75 per service for section players and $93.75 per service for principals. There is a mileage stipend for musicians traveling more than 12 miles to the service site: $.25 per mile per round trip, minus the 24-mile round trip deduction, to a cap of 136 miles round trip. There are approximately 50 services each season.
We invite qualified, professional musicians to send resumes in advance of the auditions, preferably by email, to auditions@a2so.com. Note in the subject line the instrument position for which you are auditioning. For the Associate Concertmaster, Assistant Concertmaster and Bassoon I positions, a limited number of qualified candidates will be invited to audition. You will be notified in late August if you are invited for those particular positions. If we are unable to extend an invitation to you to audition for the Associate or Assistant Concertmaster positions, we invite you to audition for the section violin position.
In addition, applicants are required to send a refundable deposit of $15 (by check) made payable to the “Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra,” and brought to or mailed to: Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, 220 E Huron, Ste 470, Ann Arbor, MI 48104. Please delay sending your check until the specific times are posted and you have verified that you are able to attend your audition time. Your check will be returned to you when you arrive at the audition or if you cancel up to seven days in advance of the audition.
If you have additional questions, you may contact us at auditions@a2so.com.
