This is a video of a section of my recital yesterday for the Silk Music Camp in Lisle, Illinois. I am doing a demonstration with the bass, and the first minute or so features me explaining some fundamentals of the bass. I’m basically improvising this demonstration as I go–I wasn’t sure of exactly what I wanted to play until I got up there. The last few minutes feature me performing “Ode D’Espagne” for the students–one of my old warhorses. Check out our Contrabass Conversations Rabbath episodes for more information on this great performer and composer, and stay tuned for more footage from this demonstration soon!

I like this video. May I post in at double bass to reach out to another set of readers?
What a workaholic you are Jason, blogging, freelancing, writing articles, podcasting, and most of all, serving as the main linking gear in the bass community machine that would fall apart without you. And you still find time to give a master class here and there, and perform one of my favorite warhorses as well. Many of us have only 24 hours in the day to do it all–where did you get those extra 6?
Thanks for the message, Benjy! I like that piece a lot. It works well with many audiences and is a blast to perform. Thanks for the comments about my wacky (although mostly self-imposed) work load. It is fun for me to do all of these projects, and it’s also fun to put out some videos of me “doing my thing”. I don’t have much of my own playing on the blog, mostly because I don’t do a lot of solo performing these days. I’ve got more footage of this demonstration, and I’ll be putting more of it out from time to time.
Hey, PY! Feel free to use that video anywhere you like!
What a wonderful musician!!!
Thanks so much, I really enjoyed it.
