The International Society of Bassists, Zola’s restaurant, Robert Nairn, and Robert Derby are hosting “An Evening with Jay Leonhart” on Monday, January 12th at 7 pm at Zola’s in State College, PA. Follow this link to get details about location, etc:
Tickets are $150, and reservations are required, so call Zola’s at 814-237-8474 if you can make it. This is a fund-raising event to support the June 2009 International Society of Bassists Convention(a truly rockin’ affair that I’ll be attending), so check out this event if you’ve got the time or means.
About Jay Leonhart
Jay is a jazz bassist who also puts on a very entertaining one-man show. There’s something, well, just entertaining about a guy with a bass alone onstage (or maybe it’s the kind of people that are drawn to the bass). I can’t help but think about the “got to see it to believe it” Dean Ferrell video that I’ve previously featured on the blog, for example. Check out this quite excellent clip from Jay, and stay tuned for more ISB updates as the event approaches:

Awesome!
For those interested in one-man bass bands, let me put in a plug for my friend John Lester — http://www.johnlestermusic.com — who’s been writing songs and singing them with his bass for a number of years now…
