After two weeks, 2600 miles, and countless cups of coffee, my brother and I got me all moved into my San Francisco pad.  I spent the last few weeks of May scheduling blog and podcast content to post while I was traveling, so these are the first actual words I’ve written since getting set up on the West Coast.

Here’s a recap (in photo form) of the last few weeks:

It was bittersweet to say goodbye to all the wonderful students I’ve worked with these past few years. I was so fortunate to find myself teaching in this amazing school for the last several years, and I will miss these great and talented kids for sure!

My brother and I got some good Chicago hangs in before all the moving and packing madness. Here we are on the Chicago River walking along the much improved Chicago Riverwalk. The river has become this great new public space in the city–very cool!

After a few days spent giving almost all of my stuff away, we managed to load all of my stuff into two cars. This was pretty impressive considering that we were bringing both a bass and a harp! Here’s the first of dozens of gas stops on the journey.

We spent a few days relaxing in Sioux Falls, South Dakota (my hometown) before making the big push to the West Coast. This squirrel jerk has taken up residence in my mother’s backyard and is totally fearless. I was worried that he would run up my leg if I wasn’t careful (a nightmare of mine).

Sioux Falls, South Dakota has some great views. It’s actually quite hilly and has some great architecture. This vista from Great Bear Park is a favorite of mine.

We spent two extremely grueling days driving from Sioux Falls to Salt Lake City (an 1100 mile drive) and then from Salt Lake City to San Francisco (another 750 miles).  This was my first time passing through Salt Lake City–what a cool town!

We hit up Nopalito in San Francisco as soon as we finished unloading the cars. There’s a location near me in the Sunset, and it’s one of my favorite neighborhood hangs. Highly recommended!

My brother had briefly passed through San Francisco before but had never crossed the Golden Gate Bridge before, so I made sure that we included a walk across the bridge and into Sausalito into our activities.

We had a blast exploring San Francisco, and taking a week to chill out and explore the city upon arrival was a great way to start my time here!  I’m digging back into the blog and podcast now that I’m all settled in, but I’ve got a lot of great mini-vacations set up for the rest of the summer, including a trip to Monterey with my wife this weekend!
