As indicated by the label, this bass is a collaborative work between Giuseppe Sgarbi (1818-1905) and his son, Antonio (1866-1938), and was built shortly after the two moved from their native Finale Emilia to Rome. The bass is of classic Italian modeling with a dark red-brown varnish more characteristic of Giuseppe’s personal work. The sensible modeling and modest proportions of this bass make it very versatile without sacrificing sound production. Tonally, it is notably rich and warm with good focus and power. It is being offered with a certificate of authenticity from Robertson & Sons and Duane Rosengard.
